Basic principles of lights switches
The basic principles of switching. There are many configurations for wiring connections involving bi-directional switches, three-way and 4-way. It is important to understand the principles of connection to memorize the hook-ups. In this way may be adapted to any type of installation.
The most important principle is that a cable has never changed. A switch interrupts the flow of current in a subject, never it. The current path is always the same: from the source to the / switches to the subject and then return to the source. All cables leading to the subject are hot; all cables returning from subjection to the source are neutral. If you are wiring cable, remember that a cable is a cluster of individual cables that have different functions.
Cables should be colour coded correctly. If they are wiring cable, there are times when you may need to use the white cord as a hot conductor. In such cases, always blacken both ends of the white cable to indicate that it is hot. Use tape or paint electrician. Use switches to the correct terminals and cable with the appropriate number of drivers.
