Accessories for DWV system are different piping water, even if they have the same appearance.  On the one hand, DWV pipes are usually larger and inner surface of pipes fits flush with the interior of the connection.  This design ensures the fluidity of the last joint material.

Addition, fittings DWV have “address” built in them; they can install only one way for waste and water flow only one form (provided there is a proper slope).  Angles DWV connections are not the same as the nominal angle of the curve.  E.g. If you need a change of 90 degrees at the address, the connection is really a little more or less in order to account for the slope.

Fittings differ in form, material and size of pipe.  Despite dozens of variations, you need only a handful of knowledge.  However, it is still important to use the connection right for every situation, because it really can be adjusted to 2 or 3 types, only one is the correct type.

1/4 Inch (or 90 degrees curve) bending and sanitary tee (single and double models) are used where changes the direction of flow from horizontal to vertical.  This is the only situation where codes allow these connections.

When the direction of the flow changes from vertical to horizontal, you must use the connections that have a gradual bend.  For this situation, learn long bends of 1/4 inch of sweep and the combination and branch.  It will negotiate the corners using 1/6, 1/8 bend bends, 1/16 bends or the Y of 45 degrees.

Use connections with more gradual curves when a pipeline changes direction in the same horizontal plane.  The fold closet for toilets is an exception.  Fold closet must conform to the floor beams codes not requiring a scan or elongated connection.

In all cases the size of the connection must match the size of the tubes is connecting.  Some connections from all points of sale are the same size, and in others vary.  You can use reducers to change an output size to a smaller size if necessary.
