Why 10 tips for Feng Shui beginners? To give a jump-start to everybody who is interested in using it. An ancient Chinese art studying our natural or artificial environment and how is affecting us, Feng Shui is practiced for thousands and thousands of years. Furthermore, the goal of Feng Shui practitioners is to use it to improve our environment and life quality.
Feng Shui beginners (or not), check the tips below; they will help you create and maintain your beautiful and peaceful home. Click here to find out more about traditional Feng Shui rules.
Tip #1: Keep Your Home Clean
Number one health requirement also applies as a major Feng Shui rule for good energy. In our busy world, maintenance is the key!
Use environmental friendly products. Simple things such as vinegar and water can clean almost everything. Baking soda will eliminate unpleasant odors (kitties, anyone?)
High quality, essential oil-based incense sticks are wonderful! Avoid commercial, chemically scented candles or sprays – they will do you more harm than good.
Choose detergents without chemicals and do not worry about the results; water is basically doing most of the cleaning.
Keep windows clean and wide open as long as possible, to allow fresh air circulation and move the stiff, unhealthy energy.
Feng Shui beginners, keeping your home clean will be easier to achieve when is clutter free…
Tip #2. De-Clutter
This is one of the most important things to do if you want your home to be a peaceful place, with good, flowing energy. Don’t be scared, make a plan; take small steps, one room at a time, one project per week.
Rule of thumb: what you did not used in the last two years (and I am very, very kind?) give, recycle, sell, whatever works? Remove the old, make room for new (no, I am not talking about valuable collectibles or memories:).
If you are surrounded by clutter, you will be more tense and stressed. Think at clutter as a major consumer of your time (how much of your precious free time you already used looking for things you need?)
Tip #3: Be Selective
Yes, this is an extension of the rule # 2. It is more personal though. Look around: notice what you love, dislike or even hate. No point to keep any items falling in the last two categories. Keep the things you love and enjoy, and let go all the other ones. I know, this is a hard one. It may take a while, but is really worth it! You will create a space filled with things that you love and inspire you. Even more, you will create s p a c e. It is a bit more difficult to do so when you share your space with others. Diplomacy is the key.
Tip #4: Space
Speaking of space… Allow enough room to walk between furniture pieces, rooms, and other objects in your home. Avoid tight passage areas, sharp corners (greeting you in the dark), or surprising, unwanted obstacles. If you are not sure how to do that, check again our previous tips 🙂
Tip #5: Arrange Your Furniture Well
Avoid sitting with the back to the door or window. Ideally, all entry passages should be in your sight. You will feel safer and your focus will increase. If you don?t have many options, place a mirror to help you see what is behind you. This is very important for you, Feng Shui beginners, if you have an office in your home.
Tip #6: Get Plants
Ancient Feng Shui masters affirmed that “each one of us is born with a certain amount of available energy to be used throughout your life. How do you use your energy? And how can Feng sShui help you replenish it? Breathing is one, easy way!
Bring fresh, live plants almost everywhere in your home, except the bedroom. They have a wonderful, vibrant energy and will purify the air in the rooms. Just remember to avoid any dry or plastic plants.
Feng Shui beginners, be aware that cactus plants, plants with sharp leaves or poisonous, are definitely not good for your home. They are bringing a hostile energy. Look for heart shaped leaves, rather then needles or thorns.
Tip #7: Choose Inspiring Colors
This is an easier chore for Feng Shui beginners. Or, at least, we hope so… It is very important to have the colors you need. We have different personalities and preferences. Specific colors can help us focus, or actually add to our daily stress. Too many hues will also not help you achieving a balanced environment.
Tip #8: Create Confort
Adjust the sounds, reduce noises, lighting, drafts. Make your place as comfortable as possible. Close that bathroom door (and the toilet lid), oil squeaky cabinets and play soft music. Try a wind chime on the patio or balcony ? it is delightful and will clear scattered energies.
Tip #9: Feng Shui Your Bedroom
This is the most delicate area for Feng Shui beginners. If you are like most of the people, you probably have at least one alarm clock, TV, stereo and even a computer station. What about the under the bed clutter? Chi, the life energy, is unable to flow freely in a bedroom with the “qualities” mentioned above. This type of bedroom is actually unable to support a good night sleep, and to promote health and happiness. Relationship wise? It is even worse.Of course there are solutions. The best to do at this point, is to start removing as many electronics as you possibly can; place the ones you must keep, far away from your head. Cover your bedroom TV with a decorative fabric. Select a bed that is preferably made of wood and make sure is placed against a solid wall. Avoid water elements and mirrors.
Bring a few candles for soft light, use organic cotton or bamboo bedding if possible and lavender essential oil for a restful sleep. While in the bedroom, focus rather on your partner (or a favorite book), instead of TV? Click here for more Feng Shui bedroom tips and solutions.
Tip #10: Protect Your Home Entry
The path leading to your entry door should not be direct from the street. Bad energies will come directly to your home! A small mirror on top of your door will also help, sending bad intentions back to where they belong…
You can always look for professional Feng Shui help. It is so much more to know? We all feel these effects, and most of the time, using your intuition will do wonders for you, Feng-Shui beginners? This is the best way to figure out what is working for us, fitting our specific needs. Learn, experiment and listen to your inner, wise adviser…
Bonus Feng-Shui Tip: get a Lucky Bamboo. Choose a happy, green and lush one(for earth element), ideally 3 or 8 stalks, in a glass or ceramic container (metal), fill it up with water and add something red – can be a ribbon, a symbol for the fire element. The plant everybody is using as lucky bamboo is not an actual bamboo.”Dracaena Sanderana” thrives if not exposed directly to the sun; indirect light is preferable, together with filtered, good quality water.
Why not try to use a software? Although it seem hard to use, due to the subject?s complexity, a free Feng Shui software can actually prove to be really helpful and accurate.
Feng Shui beginners, even if you apply a quarter of the principles mentioned above, you will notice the difference! Settle for nothing less than harmony, and good flowing energy in your life.
