Home Improvement Contractors Tip: Manage your Clients – The Work will Follow
In 2008, the economy changed. Homes started going down in value, and many homeowners decided that they didn’t need to remodel or upgrade their homes. People in the construction industry have struggled with this downturn as the demand for projects has decreased in most areas around the country.
There is an answer – when one door closes, another opens. There is work, but we need to do some additional “mining” to find that work. You can’t just sit by the phone and wait for someone to call. The economy has changed, so you need to change your business model. Many contractors don’t understand this, but one of your biggest business assets is your list of past clients. If they were happy with the job you did, in most cases they still own their home and probably have more work to do.
Here is where it gets interesting – I did a program at the JLC Live Show in Portland, OR and I asked the 40 attendees in the audience how many contractors regularly contact their past clients. Only 2 people in the room raised their hands. Only 2 out of 40! I want you to understand that there is work waiting for you if you can “rekindle” your relationship with past clients.
