That designer Guillaume Gentet, of Decor by Guillaume Gentet, took only 10 weeks to remodel an entire beach house was impressive enough. But what truly delighted the judges about his solution for the home’s 8-ft. 3-in. x 10-ft. master bath was its playful use of color.

Located in East Hampton, NY, the bath takes its cues from the house’s nautical surroundings and from Gentet’s trip to the Caribbean island of St. Barth’s, where the floors in master suites are often tiled for easy maintenance. Gentet chose Moroccan floor tiles in bold orange to enliven the space and complemented them with a blue-patterned wall covering. Framing an oversized mirror and lining the shower, glass mosaics in shades of blue and white add further interest, while a solid-color azure wall helps ground the overall design.

The mix of color and patterns provides a vibrant backdrop to an existing white freestanding tub and a white lacquered double vanity designed by Gentet around a set of ring-shaped cabinet handles. Topped with white Thassos marble, the custom unit echoes their shape with a series of arcs, adding a touch of elegant whimsy, and ensures ample storage. And to allow the clients to enjoy their home year round, radiant heating was installed for warmth and comfort underfoot.
