The first step in any home remodel project is to find design inspiration. Discovering what you believe to be aesthetically pleasing and practical for your space and budget can seem a daunting task. Below are tips that will help you get and remain inspired throughout the planning stages of your remodel:

  • Use the Internet to search for design ideas. There are a myriad of sites out there, so you may want to narrow your search by the size of the room and its functionality. It’s a good idea to save the pictures and files you like. If you have a Pinterest account, you can save photos simply by “pinning” them on your online pinboards.
  • Peruse home design magazines and books. Mark pages or clip pictures of inspired remodel projects.
  • Visit local showrooms, complete a Parade of Homes tour and always pay attention when you are in other people’s homes. Don’t be afraid to ask who the contractor, architect or designer was. This is valuable information.
  • Hire an experienced contractor who has a proven process for projects. Check the contractor’s references, experience and/or technical education. Formal education is available for contractors through many technical schools.  An experienced and knowledgeable contractor will be able to help you find, organize, prioritize, and determine the practicality of your design ideas.
